Myofunctional Therapy
Supporting the Muscles That Power Breathing, Eating, Sleeping, and Beyond
Myofunctional therapy focuses on the muscles of the mouth, face, and airway—the ones that help us breathe through our noses, chew food well, speak clearly, and sleep soundly. When these muscles aren’t functioning properly, it can cause a ripple effect through the whole body.
Common signs of myofunctional issues include:
- Mouth breathing or open-mouth posture
- Low or resting tongue posture
- Snoring or signs of sleep-disordered breathing
- Trouble chewing/swallowing efficiently
- Orthodontic relapse or spacing/crowding of teeth
Myofunctional therapy is gentle, exercise-based, and personalized. We assess each patient to understand their muscle tone, oral habits, breathing patterns, and function. Then we build a therapy plan that supports lasting change.
Therapy may include:
- Breath retraining and nasal hygiene
- Tongue and lip strengthening exercises
- Habit elimination (e.g., thumb-sucking, mouth breathing)
- Postural awareness and functional chewing/swallowing
- Collaboration with orthodontists, ENTs, and airway dentists
Healthy oral function isn’t just about smiles—it’s about supporting the brain, body, and airway from the inside out. And it’s never too early or too late to start. We offer customized therapy plans to build healthy habits, support airway growth, and improve oral function—often in collaboration with orthodontists, ENTs, and sleep providers.
